I have been teaching reading to struggling learners for the past 30 years, in both the classroom and private practice (see resume). I was lucky to have received training in the Orton Gillingham method very early in my teaching career.
This research-based reading program is highly explicit, systematic, multisensory, phonics based, and was specifically created for children dealing with the processing difficulties of dyslexia. Not surprisingly, it also works very well for the vast majority of struggling learners.
Being keenly aware of the toll that weak reading skills can take on the self-esteem of young learners, I work hard to create a supportive, playful, and productive learning experience for each of my students. (Read what former students and parents have to say).
I'd be glad to speak with you in more detail about your child's particular reading or spelling difficulties, and see if my skills might be a good match for their individual needs.
That said, I am currently carrying a smaller load of students, so may not have openings as often. If my schedule is full when you inquire, I'm still glad to speak with you about your child's reading challenges and share any other tutoring or learning resources I may know about.
